1. Gather the necessary materials:
- New oxygen sensor
- Wrench set
- Socket set
- Pliers
- Jack and jack stands
- Safety glasses
2. Prepare the car:
- Park the car on a level surface.
- Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down.
- Engage the parking brake.
- If the oxygen sensor is located under the car, raise it up using a jack and place jack stands under the frame for safety.
3. Locate the oxygen sensor:
- The oxygen sensor is located on the exhaust pipe, near the catalytic converter.
4. Disconnect the electrical connector:
- Use a wrench to loosen the bolt that holds the electrical connector in place.
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the oxygen sensor.
5. Remove the oxygen sensor:
- Use a wrench to loosen the nut that holds the oxygen sensor in place.
- Remove the oxygen sensor from the exhaust pipe.
6. Install the new oxygen sensor:
- Thread the new oxygen sensor into the exhaust pipe.
- Tighten the nut to secure the oxygen sensor in place.
7. Reconnect the electrical connector:
- Reconnect the electrical connector to the oxygen sensor.
- Tighten the bolt that holds the electrical connector in place.
8. Lower the car (if raised):
- If the car was raised up, lower it back down using the jack and jack stands.
9. Start the car:
- Turn the engine back on and allow it to run for a few minutes.
10. Check for leaks:
- Inspect the exhaust system for any leaks. If you see any leaks, tighten the bolts that hold the oxygen sensor in place.
