Note: Before you start, disconnect the car's battery to prevent accidental airbag deployment.
1. Remove the Steering Wheel:
- Use a Torx wrench to remove the two screws that hold the steering wheel airbag cover.
- Gently pry the airbag cover off using a plastic trim removal tool.
- There will be a clip hidden behind the 3 o'clock spoke; release it using the trim tool.
- Disconnect the airbag connector and the horn connector behind the steering wheel.
- Use a 19mm socket to loosen and remove the steering wheel bolt.
- Carefully pull the steering wheel straight toward you to remove it from the shaft.
2. Remove the Airbag Assembly:
- Locate the two 10mm bolts holding the airbag assembly to the steering column.
- Remove these bolts and carefully pull the airbag assembly towards you.
- Disconnect the airbag connector from the assembly.
3. Install the New Airbag:
- Carefully connect the airbag connector to the new airbag assembly.
- Slide the airbag assembly back into place and install the two 10mm bolts.
- Tighten the bolts until snug.
4. Reinstall the Steering Wheel:
- Align the steering wheel with the steering column shaft.
- Install the steering wheel bolt and tighten it using the 19mm socket.
- Reconnect the horn connector and the airbag connector behind the steering wheel.
- Clip the airbag cover back into place and insert the two Torx screws.
5. Reconnect the Battery:
- Reconnect the negative and then the positive battery terminals.
Note: After connecting the battery, the airbag indicator on your dashboard should light up briefly and then go off, indicating that the system is functioning correctly.
