Toyota Prius is a hybrid electric car, meaning that it has both a gasoline engine and an electric motor. It cannot be charged like a pure electric car by plugging it into an external power source. Instead, its battery is charged by the gasoline engine and when the car brakes or decelerates (regenerative braking).
As Prius is not a plug-in hybrid, its battery takes longer to charge compared to plug-in hybrid or electric cars. Recharging the battery mainly depends on the driving conditions, speed, traffic, and regeneration. On average, it takes several minutes of driving for the battery to charge.
