2000 Nissan Xterra Water Pump Replacement

NOTE: It’s important to drain the radiator before lifting the vehicle due to the limited access to the radiator under the vehicle.

1. Lift the front of the vehicle and support it on secure jack stands.

2. Drain the radiator by removing the drain bolt on the bottom of the radiator. Let the coolant drain out thoroughly.

3. Remove the upper and lower radiator hoses from the water pump.

4. Remove the thermostat housing by removing the two bolts that hold it in place.

5. Remove the bolts that hold the water pump in place and remove the water pump.

6. Clean the mating surface of the water pump and the engine block.

7. Apply a thin layer of sealant to the mating surface of the new water pump.

8. Position the new water pump in place and install the bolts. Tighten the bolts in a star pattern to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

9. Install the thermostat housing and tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

10. Connect the upper and lower radiator hoses to the water pump.

11. Fill the radiator with coolant.

WARNING: Ensure that the radiator cap is secure before operating the vehicle.

12. Lower the front of the vehicle.
