Tools Needed:
- Phillips-head screwdriver
- Flat-head screwdriver or pry tool
- Wire strippers
- Electrical tape
- New speakers (with matching size and impedance to your vehicle's specifications)
1. Turn Off the Audio System:
- Before starting any electrical work, make sure the audio system and the vehicle are turned off.
2. Locate the Rear Speaker Grills:
- The rear speakers are located on the rear deck (behind the rear seats) in the Honda Accord EX. Locate the speaker grills and gently pry them off using the flat-head screwdriver or pry tool.
3. Disconnect the Speaker Wires:
- Once you remove the speaker grills, you will see the rear speakers. Disconnect the speaker wires by carefully pinching and releasing the wire connectors. Be mindful of the wire positions, as you'll need to connect the new speakers to the same terminals.
4. Determine the Speaker Polarity:
- Before removing the old speakers, identify which wire is positive (+) and which is negative (-). For the 2004 Accord EX, the positive wire is usually black with a white stripe, and the negative wire is solid black. Note: this may vary, so double-check the wiring diagram for your specific vehicle model.
5. Remove the Old Speakers:
- Remove the old speakers by unscrewing the mounting screws using the Phillips-head screwdriver. Carefully lift out the speakers from the housing.
6. Install the New Speakers:
- Take one of the new speakers and align it with the mounting holes on the housing. Insert the screws provided with the speakers and tighten them securely. Repeat this process with the other new speaker.
7. Connect the Speaker Wires:
- Connect the new speaker wires to the corresponding terminals on the speakers. Ensure you connect the positive wire to the positive terminal and the negative wire to the negative terminal. Use electrical tape to insulate the connections and prevent any shorts.
8. Test the Speakers:
- Turn on the audio system and test the speakers to make sure they are functioning properly. Play some music and listen for any distortions or imbalances in the sound. If everything sounds good, you can move on to the final steps.
9. Reattach the Speaker Grills:
- Replace the speaker grills by gently pressing them back into place until they snap securely.
10. Clean Up and Enjoy:
- Clean up any debris or tools you used during the process. Enjoy your new and improved rear speakers!
