- Position the ramps near the front wheels or use a car lift.
- Release the oil pan drain bolt that is located near the bottom of the oil pan. Once the gasket seat completely, stop removing the bolt.
- Remove the filter cartridge retaining cap by turning it counterclockwise.
- Remove the used filter cartridge from the filter cap by pulling it straight up.
- Inspect the filter cartridge sealing gasket. If it is missing or damaged, insert a new one into the groove of the filter cap. Be sure that the sealing gasket remains in the groove.
- Coat the sealing surface of the new filter cartridge with clean engine oil.
- Lightly lubricate the internal mechanism in the new filter cartridge.
- Turn the filter cap counterclockwise until the cap fully engages the oil filter housing sealing surface.
- Replace the oil drain bolt.
- Tighten the oil drain bolt and the filter cap.
- Lower the vehicle.
2010 Models and Later
- Park your Hyundai Santa Fe on a flat surface and apply the parking brake.
- If needed, raise and safely support your vehicle with jack stands to gain better access to the oil filter.
- Ensure the engine has had sufficient time to cool down.
- Open the hood and locate the oil filter cap on top of the engine. The oil filter is located on the front of the engine block.
- Use an oil filter wrench to loosen and remove the oil filter cap.
- Be prepared for a small amount of oil to spill out when you remove the cap.
- Remove the old oil filter from the cap. Discard it properly.
- Apply a thin coat of new engine oil to the gasket of the new oil filter.
-Screw the new oil filter onto the cap until you feel it is hand tight.
-Reinstall the oil filter cap into the engine block and tighten it with an oil filter wrench.
- Lower your vehicle (if needed) and dispose of the old oil and filter properly.
