1. Park your car on a level surface.
This is important to ensure an accurate fluid reading.
2. Turn off the engine and let it cool down.
The transmission fluid level should be checked when the fluid is cold.
3. Locate the transmission dipstick.
It is usually located near the back of the engine, near the transmission pan. It will have a red handle.
4. Pull the dipstick out and wipe it clean.
Use a clean cloth or paper towel to wipe the dipstick clean.
5. Reinsert the dipstick into the transmission.
Push it all the way in until it is seated.
6. Pull the dipstick out again and check the fluid level.
The fluid should be between the "Full" and "Add" marks on the dipstick. If the fluid level is low, you will need to add transmission fluid.
7. Add transmission fluid if necessary.
Use a transmission funnel to add fluid slowly. Be careful not to overfill the transmission.
8. Reinsert the dipstick and check the fluid level again.
Make sure the fluid level is between the "Full" and "Add" marks on the dipstick.
9. Close the dipstick tube and replace the cap.
