To change the cooling fan relay in a 97 Honda CR-V:

1. Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.

2. Open the hood and disconnect the negative battery cable.

3. Locate the cooling fan relay.

* The cooling fan relay is usually found near the radiator.

* It is a small, black, square-shaped component with three terminals.

4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the cooling fan relay.

* Press down on the locking tab and pull the connector straight up.

5. Remove the cooling fan relay from the mounting bracket.

* There may be one or two screws holding the relay in place.

* Use a screwdriver to remove the screws.

* Lift the relay straight up to remove it from the mounting bracket.

6. Compare the old cooling fan relay to the new one to ensure they are the same size and shape.

7. Install the new cooling fan relay in the mounting bracket.

* Lower the new relay into the mounting bracket.

* Ensure the relay is properly seated in the bracket.

* Replace the screws that hold the relay in place.

8. Reconnect the electrical connector to the cooling fan relay.

* Snap the connector into place until you hear a click.

9. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

10. Start the vehicle and test the cooling fan relay.

* The cooling fan should turn on when the vehicle is started and should run until the engine reaches its normal operating temperature.
