Instructions:
1. Remove the Headlight Assembly:
- Open the hood of your Corolla.
- Identify the headlight assembly you want to clean by locating the circular headlight lens covers.
- Locate the two screws on the top and bottom of the assembly.
- Use a Phillips head screwdriver to loosen and remove these screws.
- Once removed, grip the headlight assembly and gently pull it forward to detach it from the vehicle.
- Disconnect any electrical connectors attached to the assembly by pressing the release tabs. Be cautious not to break the tabs.
- Set aside the headlight assembly for cleaning.
2. Open the Headlight Assembly:
- Place the headlight assembly on a clean, stable surface.
- Locate the rubber seal around the edges of the headlight lens cover.
- Insert the flat head screwdriver between the seal and the lens cover, and carefully pry the cover off. Be cautious not to damage the seal or the lens cover.
- Set aside the lens cover for cleaning.
3. Clean the Lens Cover:
- Use a mild dish soap and warm water solution to clean the lens cover. Dip a clean rag in the solution and gently wipe the surface of the lens, removing dirt and grime. Be cautious not to apply excessive pressure, as you may damage the plastic.
- Rinse the lens cover thoroughly with clean water to remove any remaining soap residue.
- Allow the lens cover to dry completely before moving on to the next step.
4. Clean the Inside of the Headlight Housing:
- Use a clean rag to wipe any dust or debris from inside the headlight housing.
- Spray a small amount of rubbing alcohol onto a clean microfiber cloth and use it to wipe the interior surfaces of the housing, including the reflector and the bulb socket.
- The alcohol will help to remove any stubborn dirt or grease.
5. Reinstall the Lens Cover:
- Once the inside of the headlight housing is clean and dry, carefully align the lens cover's tabs with the corresponding slots in the housing.
- Press the lens cover firmly into place until you hear a 'click' sound, indicating that the rubber seal is secure.
6. Reattach the Headlight Assembly:
- Reattach any electrical connectors that were disconnected earlier.
- Position the headlight assembly back into place and insert the two screws you removed earlier.
- Tighten these screws securely using the Phillips head screwdriver.
7. Test the Headlights:
- Turn on the headlights to ensure they are functioning correctly.
- Reposition the hood and close it securely.
By following these steps, you can effectively clean the inside of the headlight housings on your 2003 Toyota Corolla, restoring their clarity and improving your visibility while driving.
