1. Park your vehicle on a level surface and turn off the engine.
2. Locate the transmission fluid fill plug on the side of the transmission.
- The fill plug is usually located on the passenger side of the transmission, near the top.
3. Clean the area around the fill plug to prevent dirt from entering the transmission.
4. Remove the fill plug using a 17mm wrench.
5. Insert a funnel into the fill hole.
6. Add the recommended amount of transmission fluid.
- For the 1997 Toyota Tercel with a 5-speed manual transmission, the recommended transmission fluid capacity is 2.4 liters (2.5 US quarts).
7. Replace the fill plug and tighten it securely.
8. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
9. Check the transmission fluid level and add more fluid if necessary.
NOTE: It is important to use the correct type of transmission fluid for your vehicle. The recommended transmission fluid for the 1997 Toyota Tercel with a 5-speed manual transmission is SAE 75W-90 GL-4/GL-5 gear oil.
