• Park the car on a level surface and apply the parking brake.
• Turn the engine off and allow it to cool down completely.
• Disconnect the negative battery cable.
• Raise the vehicle using a floor jack and jack stands placed under the frame. Make sure the vehicle is stable and properly secured.
• Remove the front wheels.
• Remove the skid plate under the engine if it is present.
• Disconnect the transmission control linkage.
• Disconnect any electrical connectors and sensors that are connected to the transmission.
• Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the transmission.
• Remove the nuts or bolts attaching the transmission mount to the cross member.
• Remove the transmission fluid pan.
• Remove the converter bolts.
• Install a transmission jack and secure the transmission to it.
• Unbolt the transmission from the engine.
• Using the transmission jack, carefully lower the transmission out of the vehicle.
Once the transmission is removed, you can repair or replace it as necessary. Reinstallation of the transmission is the reverse of the removal procedure. Make sure to fill the transmission with the appropriate type of fluid and reconnect all electrical connectors and sensors.
