To open the hood on a 1986 truck with a broken cable, you will need to manually release the hood latch. Here are the steps involved:

1. Locate the hood release lever inside your truck. It should be located towards the driver's side footwell.

2. Pull the hood release lever to release the hood latch. If it's broken you will need to feel around for the cable and the latch. Try to manually disengage the latch.

3. Once the latch is released, the hood will pop up slightly.

4. Go to outside of the vehicle and lift the hood all the way up. Once lifted prop it up with the hood prop rod.
