Why oil is used in car?

Engine Lubrication: Engine oil is primarily used for lubrication, reducing friction between moving parts within the engine. It creates a thin film of oil between metal surfaces, preventing direct contact and minimizing wear and tear.

Heat Transfer: Oil also aids in heat transfer. As it circulates through the engine, it absorbs heat from critical components like pistons, bearings, and cylinder walls, carrying it away to the oil cooler or oil pan, where the heat is dissipated.

Cleaning and Detergency: Engine oil contains detergents and dispersants that help keep the engine clean by suspending dirt, soot, and other contaminants. These contaminants are then carried to the oil filter, where they are trapped and removed from the circulating oil.

Corrosion Protection: Oil forms a protective layer on metal surfaces, preventing corrosion caused by moisture and acidic byproducts of combustion. This protective layer helps extend the life of engine components.

Hydraulic Functions: In some engines, oil is used in hydraulic systems, such as hydraulic lifters and variable valve timing systems. These systems rely on oil pressure to actuate components and adjust valve timing for optimal engine performance.

Sealing and Leak Prevention: Oil helps seal gaps between piston rings and cylinder walls, preventing excessive blow-by and maintaining compression. It also prevents leaks from seals and gaskets, ensuring the engine operates efficiently.
