1. Remove the spark plug from the #1 cylinder (the cylinder closest to the front of the engine).
2. Insert a long, thin object (such as a screwdriver or a wooden dowel) into the spark plug hole.
3. Slowly rotate the crankshaft until the piston in the #1 cylinder reaches its highest point. This is TDC.
4. Mark the position of the crankshaft pulley with a piece of chalk or a marker.
You can also find TDC by using a timing light. A timing light is a device that flashes a bright light at the crankshaft pulley. When the light flashes, the piston in the #1 cylinder will be at TDC.
Here are some additional tips for finding TDC on a 318 Dodge engine:
* Make sure that the engine is in neutral and the parking brake is engaged.
* Be careful not to drop the object you are using to find TDC into the cylinder.
* If you are using a timing light, follow the instructions that came with the light.
