1. Park your Silverado in a safe location and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down completely before beginning work.
2. Locate the serpentine belt. The serpentine belt is a long, thin belt that runs around the front of the engine. It is connected to the crankshaft, water pump, power steering pump, and alternator.
3. Loosen the serpentine belt tensioner. The serpentine belt tensioner is a spring-loaded pulley that keeps the belt tight. To loosen the tensioner, insert a wrench into the square hole on the front of the tensioner and turn it counterclockwise.
4. Remove the old serpentine belt. Once the tensioner is loose, you can remove the old serpentine belt by slipping it off of the pulleys.
5. Install the new serpentine belt. To install the new serpentine belt, simply route it around the pulleys in the same way that the old belt was installed. Make sure that the belt is seated properly in all of the grooves.
6. Tighten the serpentine belt tensioner. Once the new belt is installed, tighten the tensioner by turning it clockwise with a wrench.
7. Start the engine and check the belt tension. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check the belt tension by pressing on it with your finger. The belt should be tight, but not too tight.
8. Turn off the engine and double check the belt tension. Once you are satisfied with the belt tension, turn off the engine and double check that the belt is seated properly in all of the grooves.
