1. Park the car on a level surface, turn off the engine, and allow it to cool down.
2. Disconnect the battery by removing the negative terminal.
3. Locate the power steering pump, which is usually mounted on the front passenger side of the engine.
4. Disconnect the hydraulic lines connected to the pump. There are usually two lines: a pressure line and a return line. Make sure to catch any leaked fluid in a container.
5. Disconnect the electrical connector on the power steering pump.
6. Unbolt the mounting bolts connecting the pump to the engine. You might need a power tools or the appropriate-sized wrench if it doesn't come loose by hand.
7. Once all the bolts are removed, carefully move the pump out of the car, taking care not to spill any remaining fluid.
8. Inspect the pump for any damage or leaks.
9. Place the new power steering pump into the car, being careful not to get any dirt or debris inside.
10. Bolt the pump back into place, reconnect the electrical connector and reinstall the hydraulic lines.
11. Refill the power steering fluid reservoir with the appropriate fluid type, as recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.
12. Reconnect the battery.
13. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes, checking for any leaks.
14. Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock, several times, to circulate the new fluid and eliminate any air trapped in the system.
