Tools Needed:
- Socket set
- Wrench set
- Screwdriver
- Pliers
- Safety glasses
- Gloves
Parts Needed:
- Alternator
- Serpentine belt
Instructions:
1. Disconnect Battery
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal. This will prevent any electrical shocks while you're working.
2. Remove Serpentine Belt
Locate the serpentine belt. To remove the serpentine belt, take a ratchet and put it on the serpentine belt tensioner pulley. Turn it clockwise until the serpentine belt is loose enough to remove.
3. Remove the Alternator
4. Remove the alternator bracket. It's the bracket that holds the alternator to the engine block.
5. Remove the alternator from the engine bay.
4. Install New Alternator
Position the new alternator in the engine bay.
Secure the alternator with the alternator bracket.
Tighten the alternator mounting bolts.
5. Install New Serpentine Belt
Route the new serpentine belt around the pulleys.
Tighten the serpentine belt tensioner pulley.
6. Connect Battery
Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
7. Test the Alternator
Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check the voltage at the battery with a voltmeter. It should be between 13.5 and 14.5 volts.
If the voltage is below or above this range, the alternator may not be working properly and you may need to have it replaced.
