1. Gather your materials. You will need:
* New transmission fluid (check your owner's manual for the correct type)
* A transmission filter (if applicable)
* A transmission fluid pan gasket (if applicable)
* A new filter o-ring (if applicable)
* A drain pan
* A funnel
* A wrench
* A screwdriver
2. Prepare your vehicle. Park your vehicle on a level surface and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down completely. Engage the parking brake.
3. Locate the transmission fluid drain plug. The drain plug is usually located on the bottom of the transmission pan.
4. Place the drain pan under the drain plug.
5. Loosen the drain plug and allow the transmission fluid to drain into the pan.
6. Once the transmission fluid has drained completely, replace the drain plug.
7. Locate the transmission filter. The filter is usually located inside the transmission pan.
8. Remove the transmission filter bolts and remove the filter.
9. Clean the transmission pan and the filter housing.
10. Install the new transmission filter and replace the filter bolts.
11. Install the new transmission fluid pan gasket (if applicable).
12. Install the new filter o-ring (if applicable).
13. Refill the transmission with new transmission fluid.
14. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
15. Check the transmission fluid level and add more fluid if necessary.
