How do you install a hitch on 2002 Dodge Durango?

Tools and Materials Needed:

  • Hitch kit (includes hitch, bolts, and説明書)

  • Drill

  • 1/2-inch drill bit

  • Wrench

  • Socket set

  • Tape measure

  • Level

Instructions

1. Park the Durango in a level spot and engage the parking brake. Put the parking brake in the "On" position.

2. Measure the height of the hitch from the ground to the bottom of the receiver tube. This measurement will be used to determine where to drill the holes for the hitch mounting bolts.

3. Mark the location of the hitch mounting holes. Use a tape measure and level to mark the location of the four mounting holes for the hitch. The holes should be spaced evenly across the width of the frame, and the front holes should be located approximately 12 inches from the rear bumper.

4. Drill the holes for the hitch mounting bolts. Use a 1/2-inch drill bit to drill the four holes for the hitch mounting bolts.

5. Install the hitch mounting bolts. Insert the hitch mounting bolts into the holes and tighten the nuts until snug.

6. Attach the hitch to the frame. Raise the hitch into position and attach it to the frame using the mounting bolts. Tighten the nuts until snug.

7. Test the hitch. Once the hitch is installed, test it by attaching a trailer or other heavy object to it. Make sure that the hitch is securely attached and that the trailer is stable before driving.

Additional Tips

* If you are installing a hitch on a vehicle with a unibody construction, you may need to use a special bracket or kit to attach the hitch to the frame.

* It is important to make sure that the hitch is installed correctly and that all of the bolts are tight. A loose hitch can cause the trailer to sway or even come loose, which could lead to an accident.

* If you plan to use your Durango for towing, it may also be a good idea to install a transmission cooler. This will help to keep your transmission from overheating when towing heavy loads.
