NOTE:
- Make sure the vehicle is in park and the engine is off.
- For an accurate check, the vehicle should be hot when the fluid is checked
1. Open the hood of your Explorer.
2. Locate the automatic transmission fluid dipstick. It is usually located near the back of the engine, on the driver's side.
3. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean with a rag.
4. Reinsert the dipstick into the transmission fluid dipstick tube.
5. Pull the dipstick out again and check the fluid level. The fluid level should be between the "Full" and "Add" marks on the dipstick.
6. If the fluid level is low, add automatic transmission fluid to the transmission. Use a funnel to add fluid to the transmission, and be careful not to overfill it.
7. Reinsert the dipstick and check the fluid level again.
8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 until the fluid level is correct.
9. Replace the dipstick and close the hood of your Explorer.
It is recommended that you check your automatic transmission fluid level regularly and add fluid as needed. However, you should also have this done as part of your regular maintenance by a qualified mechanic.
