- Feeler gauge
- 10mm wrench
- 12mm wrench
- Screwdriver
Note:
Do _not_ run the engine at high speed after adjustments have been made to any lash clearances that were smaller than the service limit before adjustment. Doing so can result in severe engine damage.
1. Let the engine cool down completamentely then remove the valve cover.
2. Locate the valve you want to adjust. The valves are numbered 1-4 from front to rear, and the exhaust valves are on the left side of the engine while the intake valves are on the right.
3. Place a 10mm wrench on the adjusting nut of the valve you want to adjust and loosen the nut.
4. Insert a feeler gauge of the appropriate thickness between the valve stem and the rocker arm. The correct lash clearance for the intake valves is 0.008-0.012 inches (0.20-0.30 mm) and the exhaust valves is 0.010-0.014 inches (0.25-0.35 mm).
5. Use a screwdriver to adjust the lash clearance by turning the adjusting screw until the feeler gauge fits between the valve stem and the rocker arm with a slight amount of resistance.
6. Tighten the adjusting nut to hold the lash clearance in place.
7. Repeat steps 3-6 for the remaining valves.
8. Replace the valve cover.
