Materials Needed:
- New car battery (Consult your owner's manual or vehicle specifications for the required battery type and size)
- Wrench or socket set
- Safety goggles
Procedure:
1. Preparation:
- Park your vehicle on a level surface, turn off the engine, and allow it to cool down.
- Engage the parking brake and ensure that the car is in "Park" (for automatic transmission) or "Neutral" (for manual transmission).
2. Locate Battery:
- Open the hood of your vehicle and locate the battery. In the FX35, the battery is usually in the engine compartment, in a covered battery tray.
3. Disconnect Negative Cable:
- Put on your safety goggles.
- Use the wrench or socket set to loosen and remove the negative (black) terminal cable from the battery post. Be careful not to let the cable touch any metal surfaces.
4. Disconnect Positive Cable:
- Loosen and remove the positive (red) terminal cable from the battery post using the wrench or socket set.
5. Remove Battery Hold-Down Clamp:
- Loosen or remove the hold-down clamp that secures the battery in place.
6. Remove Old Battery:
- Gently lift and remove the old battery from the battery tray, taking care not to spill any battery acid.
7. Install New Battery:
- Place the new battery in the battery tray, ensuring it is positioned correctly.
- Secure the battery with the hold-down clamp.
8. Reconnect Positive Cable:
- Reattach the positive (red) terminal cable to the battery post. Tighten it securely.
9. Reconnect Negative Cable:
- Reattach the negative (black) terminal cable to the battery post. Tighten it securely.
10. Dispose of Old Battery:
- Properly dispose of the old battery at a recycling center or an auto parts store.
11. Close Hood:
- Close the hood of your vehicle.
Note:
- Before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have any radio codes or security system codes needed to reactivate these systems after reconnecting the battery.
- If the battery terminals have corrosion or buildup, clean them with a wire brush before reattaching the cables.
- It is recommended to replace the battery with the same type and size as the original factory-installed battery. Check your vehicle's owner's manual for specific battery specifications.
