- Spark plug socket wrench
- Spark plugs appropriate for the engine
- Gap gauge
- Torque wrench
- Pliers
- Clean rag
Instructions:
1. Prepare the vehicle:
- Turn off the engine and let it cool down completely.
Remove the negative battery cable to disconnect the power supply.
2. Locate the spark plugs:
- Open the hood and locate the spark plug cables.
They are usually located on top of the engine, and they are attached to the spark plugs with rubber boots.
3. Remove the spark plug wires:
- Use a pair of pliers to grasp the spark plug wires as close to the boot as possible.
- Pull the wire straight up to remove it.
- Be careful not to damage the wires or the boots.
4. Remove the old spark plugs:
- Use the spark plug socket wrench to turn the spark plugs counterclockwise until they are loose.
- Remove the spark plugs from the engine.
5. Gap the new spark plugs:
- Check the gap between the center electrode and the ground electrode of the new spark plugs.
- The gap should be within the specifications listed in your vehicle's owner's manual.
- Use a gap gauge to adjust the gap if necessary.
6. Install the new spark plugs:
- Hand-tighten the new spark plugs into the engine until they are snug.
- Use the spark plug socket wrench to tighten the spark plugs to the specified torque.
7. Reinstall the spark plug cables:
- Reinstall the spark plug cables according to the appropriate ignition wire diagram.
- Make sure that the cables are pushed in firmly until they click into place.
8. Disconnect the negative battery cable:
- Reattach the negative battery cable to restore power to the vehicle.
9. Start the vehicle:
Start the vehicle and let it run for a few minutes to ensure that everything is working properly.
