How to Change Front Differential Fluid in a 1994 Chevy S10 Truck

Tools and Materials Needed

* New differential fluid (refer to your owner's manual for the correct type and amount)

* Socket set

* Oil drain pan

* Funnel

* Shop rags

* Safety glasses

Instructions

1. Park your truck on a level surface and engage the parking brake.

2. Crawl under the truck and locate the front differential. It is located on the front axle, just behind the engine.

3. Place the oil drain pan under the differential drain plug.

4. Use a socket wrench to loosen the drain plug and allow the old fluid to drain out.

5. Once the old fluid has drained out, replace the drain plug.

6. Use a funnel to add new fluid to the differential until it reaches the fill hole.

7. Replace the fill plug and lower the truck.

Your front differential fluid has now been changed.

Tips

* If you have a 4x4 truck, you will need to change the fluid in both the front and rear differentials.

* Differential fluid should be changed every 30,000 miles or every two years, whichever comes first.

* If you live in a cold climate, you may want to use a synthetic differential fluid, which will flow better in cold weather.
