Can I drive a vehicle with air brakes in Illinois class c license?

In Illinois, you cannot drive a vehicle with air brakes with a Class C license. To operate a vehicle with air brakes, you must obtain a Class B commercial driver's license (CDL).

The Class B CDL allows you to drive any single vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more, or any such vehicle towing another vehicle not exceeding 10,000 pounds GVWR, provided the GCWR does not exceed 26,001 pounds, and equipped with air brakes.

To obtain a Class B CDL, you must:

- Be at least 18 years old

- Possess a valid Illinois driver's license

- Pass a CDL knowledge test

- Pass a CDL driving skills test

- Provide proof of residency in Illinois

Please note that there are additional endorsements required to operate certain types of vehicles with a Class B CDL, such as a passenger endorsement or a hazmat endorsement.

For more information, please visit the Illinois Secretary of State website or contact your local driver's license facility.
