Why does your car turn off when you unplug battery?

A car does not turn off immediately after disconnecting the battery. If an internal combustion engine is running when the battery is disconnected, it will continue to operate because it draws its power from the alternator, which is driven by the engine's crankshaft. Some vehicles may experience momentary power interruptions or fluctuations, but they should recover quickly as the alternator takes over.

However, if the car relies solely on battery power (as in the case of an electric vehicle), disconnecting the battery will cause it to shut down immediately, as the electric components and systems will lose their source of power.

It's important to note that disconnecting the battery while the engine is running can be hazardous, as it can damage electrical components in the vehicle. It is generally recommended to turn off the engine and wait a few minutes before disconnecting the battery terminals to avoid any potential damage.
