Electric blankets are designed to be used on top of a regular mattress. They add warmth by trapping body heat between the blanket and the mattress. An air mattress is made to be lightweight and breathable. It does not hold heat in as well as a traditional mattress. This means that an electric blanket could overheat if placed directly on an air mattress. The heat could also damage the air mattress.
In addition to the risk of overheating, there is also a shock hazard associated with using an electric blanket with an air mattress. The metal coils in an electric blanket can come into contact with the metal springs in an air mattress. This can create a short circuit, which could lead to an electrical shock. Some electric blanket controls are even directly operated with the power system, leaving no transformer to protect the person from the electrical system in case of a fault in the blanket.
For these reasons, it is NEVER recommended to use an electric blanket with an air mattress. If you are looking for a way to add warmth to your air mattress, there are other options available, such as a heating pad or a hot water bottle.
