* A new thermostat
* A screwdriver
* A spanner
* A coolant leak pan
1. Park the Range Rover on a level surface and allow the engine to cool down.
2. Open the bonnet and locate the thermostat housing. It is located on the front of the engine, just below the water pump.
3. Remove the two bolts that hold the thermostat housing in place.
4. Remove the old thermostat from the housing.
5. Install the new thermostat in the housing, making sure that the gasket is properly seated.
6. Replace the bolts that hold the thermostat housing in place.
7. Refill the coolant system with a 50/50 mix of coolant and water.
8. Start the engine and allow it to run for a few minutes.
9. Check for leaks around the thermostat housing.
10. Once you are satisfied that there are no leaks, close the bonnet and test drive the Range Rover.
Here are some additional tips for changing the thermostat on a P38 Range Rover:
* Make sure that you have the correct thermostat for your vehicle. There are two different types of thermostats available for the P38 Range Rover, one for models with a V8 engine and one for models with a diesel engine.
* If you are not comfortable changing the thermostat yourself, you can take your vehicle to a qualified mechanic.
* Be careful not to spill coolant on the engine or the surrounding area. Coolant is a corrosive fluid that can damage paint and metal.
