Vauxhall Tigra 1.4 16v Cambelt Change

Interval

The cambelt on a Vauxhall Tigra 1.4 16v should be changed every 60,000 miles or 10 years, whichever comes first.

Parts Required

- Timing Belt Kit (belt, tensioner, and idler pulley)

- Water Pump (optional)

- Coolant (optional)

Tools Required

- Socket set

- Allen key set

- Torque wrench

- Timing light

- Screwdriver

- Pliers

Instructions

1. Remove the engine cover.

2. Set the engine to TDC (top dead center). This can be done by aligning the crankshaft pulley timing mark with the TDC mark on the timing cover.

3. Remove the timing belt cover.

4. Loosen the tensioner pulley bolt and remove the tensioner pulley.

5. Remove the old timing belt.

6. Install the new timing belt. Be sure to route the belt correctly according to the diagram in the Haynes manual.

7. Install the new tensioner pulley and tighten the bolt.

8. Check the timing belt tension. This can be done by pressing on the belt with your finger. The belt should deflect about 1/4 inch (6mm) when pressed.

9. Install the timing belt cover.

10. Reinstall the engine cover.

11. Start the engine and check the timing. The timing should be correct if the engine is running smoothly and there are no unusual noises.

Additional Notes

- If the water pump is leaking or making noise, it should be replaced at the same time as the cambelt.

- The coolant should be replaced every 5 years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first.
