The Volkswagen Type 181, commonly known as the Thing, is a German utilitarian vehicle that was produced by Volkswagen from 1968 to 1983. It was developed for military use, but was also sold for civilian use in some markets. The fuel efficiency of the Thing is estimated to be around 18-20 miles per gallon (MPG).
