• 8mm Allen key
• 1/2-inch drive ratchet
• 10mm socket
• 15mm socket
• 18mm socket
• 22mm socket
• Breaker bar
• Flathead screwdriver
• Feeler gauge
Instructions:
1. Remove the valve covers.
2. Rotate the engine until the No. 1 piston is at top dead center (TDC) of the compression stroke. This can be checked by inserting a screwdriver into the spark plug hole of the No. 1 cylinder and watching for it to rise and fall as the piston moves up and down. When the piston is at TDC, the screwdriver will be at its highest point.
3. Loosen the 8mm Allen key bolt on the timing chain tensioner.
4. Insert a feeler gauge between the timing chain and the timing chain guide on the front of the engine. The feeler gauge should have a thickness of 0.010 inches.
5. Tighten the 8mm Allen key bolt on the timing chain tensioner until the feeler gauge is snug between the timing chain and the timing chain guide.
6. Reinstall the valve covers.
7. Check the timing chain adjustment by rotating the engine crankshaft two full turns. The timing marks on the crankshaft sprocket and the camshaft sprocket should still be aligned.
If the timing marks are not aligned, repeat steps 2-7 until they are.
