1. Remove the spark plug. This will make it easier to turn the engine over.
2. Find the timing mark on the flywheel. The timing mark is usually a small notch or line on the edge of the flywheel.
3. Turn the engine over until the timing mark lines up with the pointer on the engine case. You can do this by using a wrench to turn the crankshaft bolt.
4. Install the spark plug.
5. Start the engine and check the timing with a timing light. The timing light should flash when the timing mark on the flywheel lines up with the pointer on the engine case.
If the timing is not correct, you will need to adjust it by turning the distributor. To do this, loosen the distributor hold-down bolt and turn the distributor until the timing mark on the flywheel lines up with the pointer on the engine case. Then, tighten the distributor hold-down bolt.
Here are some additional tips for setting the timing on a 1985 Honda Fourtrax 250:
* Make sure that the engine is cold before you begin.
* Use a good quality timing light.
* Be careful not to over-tighten the distributor hold-down bolt.
* If you are not confident in your ability to set the timing, you should take your ATV to a qualified mechanic.
