Where does the engine oil go?

Engine oil goes through a closed system within the engine:

1. Oil Pan: The oil is stored in the oil pan, located at the bottom of the engine.

2. Oil Pump: The oil pump draws oil from the oil pan and pressurizes it.

3. Oil Filter: The pressurized oil flows through the oil filter, which removes contaminants and debris.

4. Oil Galleries: The filtered oil is then distributed through channels called oil galleries, which run throughout the engine.

5. Lubrication Points: The oil lubricates various moving parts within the engine, including:

* Crankshaft and Connecting Rods: These components are responsible for converting the piston's linear motion into rotational motion.

* Camshaft and Valves: The camshaft controls the opening and closing of the valves, which allow air and fuel into the cylinders and exhaust gases out.

* Pistons and Cylinder Walls: The oil reduces friction between the pistons and the cylinder walls, preventing wear and tear.

6. Oil Return: After lubricating these components, the oil flows back into the oil pan through return passages.

7. Oil Cooler (optional): In some engines, the oil passes through an oil cooler to reduce its temperature.

8. Oil Pressure Relief Valve: This valve regulates the oil pressure in the system, preventing excessive pressure.

9. Oil Level Check: You can check the oil level using the dipstick, which is located on the engine block.

Essentially, the engine oil continuously circulates through this system, lubricating the engine's internal components and preventing wear and tear.
