Where is the starter on a 97 F150 4.2 V6?

On a 1997 Ford F-150 with the 4.2L V6 engine, the starter is located on the passenger side of the engine, toward the bottom. It's fairly close to the bell housing (where the transmission connects to the engine). You'll likely need to get down low to see it clearly.
