Is it normal for a newly installed fuel pump to make humming noise I never heard when the old one was in would hear start i turned key on position but no after that?

No, a new fuel pump shouldn't make a humming noise that the old one didn't. A slight whirring sound during the initial prime (when you turn the key to the "on" position before starting the engine) is normal for many fuel pumps, but a continuous hum is not.

A humming noise could indicate several problems:

* Faulty pump: The new pump may be defective.

* Electrical issue: There could be a problem with the wiring, a bad relay, or a short circuit causing the pump to draw too much current.

* Installation problem: The pump might not be seated correctly or there might be an obstruction hindering its operation.

* Pressure regulator issue: A problem with the fuel pressure regulator could be causing the pump to work harder than it should.

If you're hearing a consistent hum, you should have a mechanic investigate the issue immediately. A faulty fuel pump can cause serious damage to your engine. Continuing to run the engine with a problematic fuel pump could lead to costly repairs.
