To find it, you'll need to:
1. Consult your owner's manual: This is the best first step. The manual should have a diagram of the fuse and relay boxes showing the location of the fuel pump relay. Look for diagrams labeled "underhood fuse box" or "power distribution center."
2. Check the underhood fuse/relay box: This box is typically located near the battery, often on the fender well or near the firewall. Open the box and examine the diagram on the inside of the cover. The diagram usually indicates the location and function of each relay. Look for a relay labeled "fuel pump," "EFI," or something similar. Sometimes the label will only provide a circuit number, and then you'll need to compare to a wiring diagram to confirm.
3. Use a wiring diagram: If you can't locate it using the owner's manual and the fuse box diagram, you'll need a wiring diagram for your specific vehicle. These can be found online (often for a fee through automotive parts websites or repair manual providers like Haynes or Chilton) or through a local auto parts store.
4. Look for a separate relay box: In some less common cases, the fuel pump relay might be located in a separate, smaller relay box somewhere else in the engine bay. This is less likely but worth considering if you've checked the main fuse/relay box and still can't find it.
Important Note: Before working with any electrical components, always disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shocks or short circuits.
