What is the engine compartment?

The engine compartment, also known as the engine bay, is the part of a vehicle where the engine and other related components are housed. It's typically located under the hood (bonnet in British English) and is usually sealed off to protect these components from the elements and potential damage. It contains things like:

* The engine: The primary power source of the vehicle.

* Transmission: Transfers power from the engine to the wheels.

* Radiator: Cools the engine coolant.

* Battery: Provides electrical power to the vehicle's systems.

* Alternator: Generates electrical power while the engine is running.

* Starter motor: Starts the engine.

* Various hoses and belts: Transfer fluids and power within the system.

* Wiring harnesses: Deliver electrical power and signals throughout the engine and vehicle.

* Fuse box: Protects the electrical system from overloads.

* Fluid reservoirs: Contain fluids like brake fluid, power steering fluid, and windshield washer fluid.

Essentially, it's the heart of the vehicle's mechanical and electrical systems, keeping them all together and protected.
