Can you run a diesel without one glow plug?

You might be able to start a diesel engine without one glow plug, especially in warmer weather, but it will be significantly harder and potentially damaging. Glow plugs preheat the combustion chamber to aid ignition, so with one missing, the others have to work harder. This can lead to:

* Hard starting: The engine will crank for longer and may not start at all, especially when cold.

* Uneven running: The cylinder without the glow plug might not fire consistently, leading to rough idling and potential misfires.

* Increased wear and tear: The increased strain on the starter motor and other components can shorten their lifespan.

* Increased emissions: Incomplete combustion due to poor ignition in one cylinder can result in higher emissions.

While you *might* get away with it for a short period, it's not recommended. Replacing the faulty glow plug is the best solution.
