2. Look near the thermostat housing: Start by looking at the thermostat housing on the engine. The temperature sender is usually very close by. It might be on the head itself, or mounted on a nearby fitting.
3. Trace the wires: If you can find the wire(s) going to the temperature gauge or the engine control module (ECM), you can follow them back to the sender.
Be careful when working near hot engine components. Let the engine cool completely before attempting to locate the sensor.
