1. Park your truck on level ground and turn off the engine. Allow it to cool down.
2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal to avoid electrical shock.
3. Move to the front of your truck and find the fan and pulley system. The fan belt will be running around these components.
4. With a 14-mm wrench or a socket set, loosen the pivot bolt on the tensioner pulley. This bolt is usually located near the top of the engine compartment.
5. While holding the tensioner in place, move the belt off of the pulleys.
6. Inspect the old fan belt for any signs of wear or damage. If it is frayed, cracked, or loose, replace it with a new one.
7. To install the new fan belt, place it around the pulleys in the same way as the old one was installed.
8. Reinstall the pivot bolt and tighten it until the belt is snug but not over-tightened.
9. Check to make sure the fan belt is properly tensioned by pressing down on the belt with your finger. It should deflect about 1/2 inch when pressed.
10. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
11. Start the truck and let it run for a few minutes. Check to make sure the belt is tracking properly and is not making any unusual noises.
