- New transmission oil (SAE 80W-90 or as recommended by your bike's manual)
- Oil filter wrench
- Funnel
- Rags
- Safety glasses
Instructions:
1. Warm up the motorcycle engine by riding it for a few minutes. This will help the oil to drain more easily.
2. Park the motorcycle on a level surface and turn off the engine.
3. Locate the transmission oil drain plug. It should be located on the bottom of the transmission case, near the rear of the bike.
4. Place an oil pan under the drain plug.
5. Use an oil filter wrench to loosen the drain plug. Be careful not to drop the drain plug into the oil pan.
6. Allow the old oil to drain completely.
7. Replace the drain plug and tighten it securely.
8. Locate the transmission oil fill plug. It is usually located on the top of the transmission case, near the front of the bike.
9. Remove the fill plug.
10. Using a funnel, add new transmission oil to the transmission case. Add the amount of oil specified in your bike's manual.
11. Replace the fill plug and tighten it securely.
12. Check the oil level by using the oil sight glass. The oil should be between the "full" and "add" marks.
Tips:
- If you do not have an oil filter wrench, you can use a crescent wrench or a pair of pliers to loosen the oil drain plug.
- Be sure to use the correct type of transmission oil for your bike. Using the wrong type of oil could damage the transmission.
- If you spill any oil, be sure to clean it up immediately. Oil is harmful to the environment.
- If you have any questions about changing your motorcycle's transmission oil, be sure to consult your bike's manual or a qualified mechanic.
