1. Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
2. Locate the brake slack adjusters on the front axle. They are located on the back of the brake chambers, near the bottom.
3. There are two slack adjusters on each wheel end. One adjuster is for the inboard brake pad, and the other is for the outboard brake pad.
4. Use a 7/8- or 15/16-inch wrench to turn the slack adjusters in the "outward" direction. This will loosen the slack adjusters and allow the brake shoes to move closer to the brake drum.
5. Continue turning the slack adjusters until you can feel a slight resistance. This means that the brake shoes are now making contact with the brake drum.
6. Once the brake shoes are making contact with the brake drum, turn the slack adjusters back in the "inward" direction until you can see a small gap between the brake shoes and the brake drum. This gap should be about 0.020 inches.
7. Repeat steps 4-6 for the other three brake slack adjusters on the front axle.
8. Test the brakes to make sure that they are working properly.
