1. Park the vehicle in a safe location, making sure that the parking brake is engaged.
2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. This will help to prevent any electrical shocks while you are working on the car.
3. Open the hood of the car.
4. Locate the alternator. It is usually a black or silver metal casing with a large pulley on the front.
5. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the alternator. There will be two or three connectors that need to be disconnected.
6. Loosen the serpentine belt tensioner. This will allow you to remove the belt from the alternator.
7. Remove the serpentine belt.
