Why wood my red wire going from alternator plug to batterry?

There shouldn't be a red wire going from the alternator plug to the battery. The alternator plug typically has three wires: one for the field, one for the sense, and one for the ground. The red wire from the alternator should go to the positive terminal of the battery.
