Tools and Materials Needed:
- Socket wrench set
- Pliers
- Screwdriver
- Replacement air conditioner pulley
- New drive belt
Procedure:
1. Park the Thunderbird in a safe location and engage the parking brake. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down completely.
2. Locate the air conditioner pulley. It is usually located on the front of the engine near the alternator and power steering pump.
3. Remove the drive belt. Use a wrench to loosen the tensioner pulley and remove the drive belt from around the pulleys.
4. Remove the old air conditioning pulley. Use a wrench to loosen and remove the bolts holding the old pulley in place.
5. Clean the pulley mounting area. Remove any dirt, debris, or rust from the pulley mounting surface using a wire brush.
6. Install the new air conditioning pulley. Place the new pulley onto the mounting surface and secure it with the bolts you removed earlier. Tighten the bolts securely.
7. Reinstall the drive belt. Route the drive belt around the pulleys, including the new air conditioner pulley. Make sure the belt is seated correctly in all the grooves.
8. Adjust the tensioner pulley. Use the wrench to adjust the tensioner pulley until the drive belt has the proper tension.
9. Test the air conditioner. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check that the air conditioner is blowing cold air.
