Step 1: Prepare the Car
- Park the car on a level surface and turn off the engine.
- Allow the engine to cool down for at least 30 minutes.
Step 2: Locate the Oil Drain Plug
- Crawl under the car and locate the oil drain plug. It is usually located at the bottom of the oil pan.
Step 3: Place the Oil Drain Pan
- Position the oil drain pan directly under the oil drain plug.
Step 4: Loosen the Oil Drain Plug
- Use the wrench to loosen the oil drain plug. Be careful as hot oil may spill out.
Step 5: Drain the Old Oil
- Allow all of the old oil to drain into the oil drain pan. This may take a few minutes.
Step 6: Replace the Oil Drain Plug
- Once the oil has drained completely, replace the oil drain plug and tighten it securely.
Step 7: Locate the Oil Filter
- The oil filter is usually located near the top of the engine.
Step 8: Remove the Old Oil Filter
- Use the wrench to loosen the oil filter. Be careful not to spill any oil.
Step 9: Apply a Thin Coat of New Oil to the New Filter Gasket
- Before installing the new oil filter, apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket. This will help create a seal and prevent leaks.
Step 10: Install the New Oil Filter
- Screw on the new oil filter by hand until it is snug. Do not over-tighten the oil filter.
Step 11: Add New Engine Oil
- Use the funnel to add the recommended amount of new engine oil through the oil filler cap.
Step 12: Check the Oil Level
- Use the dipstick to check the oil level. The oil level should be between the "full" and "add" marks on the dipstick.
Step 13: Start the Engine
- Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
Step 14: Check for Leaks
- Look under the car for any leaks. If you notice any leaks, tighten the oil drain plug or oil filter until the leak stops.
Step 15: Dispose of the Old Oil and Filter
- Dispose of the old oil and filter responsibly according to local regulations.
Remember, if you are not comfortable performing this task yourself, it is always a good idea to have it done by a professional mechanic.
