The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 (NATO reporting name: Fishbed) is a supersonic jet fighter and interceptor aircraft designed by the Mikoyan-Gurevich design bureau in the Soviet Union. Originally a point-defence interceptor, it evolved into a multirole aircraft capable of performing a variety of tasks, including ground-attack, reconnaissance and anti-ship missions.
The MiG-21 is one of the most widely produced aircraft in history, with an estimated 11,242 units built. It was flown by more than 60 countries around the world, making it the most-produced supersonic jet aircraft to date.
