The OH-58D Kiowa Warrior is a single-engine, four-blade, light helicopter designed by Schweizer Aircraft Corporation for the United States Army. It was developed as a replacement for the OH-6 Cayuse.
The Kiowa Warrior's primary role is to perform armed reconnaissance and security operations. It is armed with a variety of weapons, including Hellfire missiles, Hydra 70 rockets, and a 23 mm chain gun. The Kiowa Warrior can also be used to conduct search and rescue, target acquisition, and medical evacuation missions.
The OH-58D was first introduced into service in 1986. It has since been used in a variety of conflicts, including Operation Desert Storm, the Bosnian War, and the Iraq War. The Kiowa Warrior is scheduled to be replaced by the ARH-70 Arapaho in the near future.
