The SR-71 was a long-range, high-altitude, strategic reconnaissance aircraft developed and operated by the United States Air Force. It was designed as a replacement for the Lockheed A-12 Oxcart, and entered service in 1964. The SR-71 was capable of flying at speeds of up to Mach 3.2, and could reach altitudes of up to 85,000 feet (25,900 m). The aircraft was retired in 1998.
