_NOTE: The engine should be at normal operating temperature before making any adjustments._
1. Locate the carburetor. The carburetor is located on the side of the engine, near the top. It is usually a metal or plastic box with a round air filter on top.
2. Remove the air filter cover: You can do this by simply pulling it off. It is usually held on by friction or a small clip.
3. Locate the idle mixture screw. The idle mixture screw is a small, brass screw located on the bottom front of the carburetor.
4. Turn the idle mixture screw to adjust the idle speed. Turning the screw clockwise will increase the idle speed while turning it counter-clockwise will decrease it.
5. Set the idle speed to the correct RPM. The correct RPM for a 6.5 HP Briggs and Stratton engine is typically between 1,750 and 1,900.
6. Replace the air filter cover.
To adjust the carburetor float level, follow these steps:
_NOTE: The engine should be off before making any adjustments._
1. Remove the carburetor bowl. The carburetor bowl is located at the bottom of the carburetor. It is usually held on by a few screws.
2. Check the float level. The float should be parallel to the carburetor body and should not be touching the sides.
3. Adjust the float level if necessary. To adjust the float level, gently bend the float tab up or down until the carburetor achieves the correct fuel level.
4. Replace the carburetor bowl.
5. Reinstall the air filter cover and re-attach the fuel line to the carburetor inlet.
_NOTE: Adjustments to the carburetor may affect how the engine runs so be sure to refer to the Briggs and Stratton engine manual for more detailed and accurate instructions._
